Soundscape

Emotion: Ecstasy

  1. Right from the beginning the tone of this Soundscape seems to be very upbeat and cheery. The Gestalt Principle of figure and ground can be observed as they are put into action here. I say this because the song starts out slow but begins to increase as more and more instruments are added to the mix. The way these instruments supplement and help one another creates the feeling that the band playing is front and center, on a stage perhaps, performing for a small audience. Along these lines the Manipulation of Space can also be observed as the way sound is projected straight to the center of the listening audience, the feeling of a band playing on stage is reinforced strongly. The soundscape is so perfectly cheery and content sounding, it could easily be mood music for say an elevator or dentistry waiting room. Something about the tempo, combined with the specific combination of instruments and supplementary upbeat notes simply make it impossible for the listener to have a negative outlook on life, at least while listening to this soundscape. So in conclusion, this soundscape incorporates the implication of Gestalt Principle of figure and ground, manipulation of space and above all else is a very pleasant production.

  2. This soundscape definitely did its job of creating an emotion of ecstasy. The beats and rhythm made me feel as if I am hanging out with friends and having the time of my life, laughing it up. I envision a circle of friends playing poker, drinking whiskey, and having a great time. I notice that the space used is flat and doesn't really demonstrate any depth, which is fine for the emotion that was assigned. To me, ecstasy doesn't occupy space except for in the mind when one is truly enjoying life. The manipulation of time is also represented well because the low bass goes from a lone beat to a melody of different sounds such as the piano. The percussion also does well in creating a dynamic listening environment. Great job, also, on capturing the ideas of simply feeling good.
